Musicola

Privacy policy

Last updated 01/10/2026

Musicola is made by Scott Dobson, an independent developer in Spain, who is responsible for this policy. Questions: support@musicola.app.

No tracking

Musicola doesn’t track you, show ads or collect analytics. Nothing you do in the app is sent to its developer, apart from the Apple Music preview requests described below.

Your Navidrome server

Musicola connects to the Navidrome server you sign in to: over HTTPS, or, when you sign in with a local address on your home network, without encryption. Your plays, favourites, playlists and play queue are saved there, under that server’s own terms.

Apple Music previews

Only when you look around without a server: Musicola loads Apple Music’s charts, the albums and artists you open and anything you search for through its developer’s server, preview.musicola.app, which passes the requests to Apple. That server receives those requests, your region and your IP address (used only to limit abuse), and stores nothing except Cloudflare’s request logs, which are deleted within a week. The 30-second previews and artwork come straight from Apple.

On your device

Your login, and a Last.fm key if you add one, are kept in your device’s Keychain. Downloads, listening history, recent searches and settings stay on your device. The song that’s playing is shared only with the app’s own widget and Top Shelf. Deleting the app removes them.

Lyrics

When your server has no lyrics for a song, Musicola asks LRCLIB (lrclib.net), sending the song’s title, artist, album and length. Turn off Find lyrics online in Settings to stop this.

Last.fm

Only if you add your own Last.fm API key: Musicola asks Last.fm for artist biographies, album notes and top songs, sending artist and album names with your key. Remove the key in Settings to stop this.

Musicola Plus

Musicola Plus is bought through the App Store, and Apple handles the payment. Musicola only asks the App Store which Musicola Plus tiers your Apple Account owns. The developer receives no personal details about who buys.

This website

musicola.app sets no cookies and runs no analytics. It is served by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver the pages and protect the site.

Emailing support

If you email support@musicola.app, your message and email address are used only to answer you, and are deleted once your question is resolved unless you ask us to keep them.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask what personal data we hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted, by emailing support@musicola.app. Apart from support emails we hold none. You can also complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the AEPD.

Children

Musicola collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date, and the app’s Settings › Privacy will match it.
